Poi people...home of friendly fire

...by LTHf. Accept no limitations!

Hey everyone
I am going to be flying to Seattle from Dallas in a few months to spin at my cousins wedding, and was wondering whether or not my Poi could be confiscated from my luggage. I have had some really random sh*t removed from my checked bags in the past.
So... If any of you have flown with Poi, please let me know how it went and what I should do.
I guess I could always ship my Poi up early, but don't really want to spend the extra money if I don't have to.
Thanx
Loki

Hey man, last trip I took, I brought some beeming poi on chains. No problem. Now Fire wicks, I wouldn't think would be any different. As long as you don't have fule with you, you should be okay.

Thanx again Joey
Lol... you seem to have all the answers...A great thing!
I did call the airline to see what they had to say about it, but they could not comprehend what I was saying, trying to explain what fire Poi was...
I would be CRUSHED if I got there and my Poi were gone when I opened my luggage!

No doubt, that would be crushing...

They might check for "Explosive residues" if you get pulled aside to be checked. It seems to happen to me every time. although ive never traveled with used fire poi, i have worked with various law enforcement agencies, and i know how they work.
Just be very compliant and declare them befor they check ANYTHING, but dont say anything unless prompted.
you should be just fine.

This is something I need to look into also. I have heard that if the wicks have fuel residue they will be pulled.(ie any wick that has binn lit up has residue on it.) If they are brand new you will be OK. I will post when I find out more. I don't want to chance having my stuff removed.

Id say that is Right on the money, joey.

You might want to invest in some new heads, OR, Ship them (the used ones) to your destination prior.

Thanks so much for the input everybody!
I guess I will probably try to scrape up the cash for some new fire heads for the trip... that seems to be the safest route so far.
If anyone else has any advice, I'd really love to hear it.
Thanks again everyone
Peace all

Ive taken fire poi with me to a few different countries now and i just put them in a tupperware dish with no fuel on them. But my Friend, Samo, was worried about his staff being too long for hold luggae so he put it through a special packiaging system which cost him a load extra, so you'd be better off shipping them ahead. :)

Thanks Reuben
When you took your Poi in the tupperware, were they already burned? and did you need to declare that you had them in your bags?

I flew with my poi this December, I just put them in a zip lock bag in my luggage and didn't have any trouble.

I would think that if your fire heads have had fuel on them the airport might consider them a risk. You might want to think about bringing virgin wicks and then mailing them back to yourself rather than risking the airline...... Or maybe just mail your wicks both ways. I would put them in a zip bag to help hide any fuel scent.....

I have traveled countless time, domestically and internationally, with bookoos of used fire equipment...Poi, monkeyfists, whips and never had an issue packing them in my checked bags. 75% of the time I get the card in my bags letting me know that they opened them and looked through (probably because of the residue) but have never been stopped or had anyone ask me about them. I always pack them in freezer bags, inside a larger bag. I've never known it to be an issue with anyone else I know that travels with their props!
